CHIPPER
A few words from Tim Batcup
Gestated and birthed in the creative paradise that is Mwnci Studios - a remote West Wales Victorian estate set in the rolling Whitland countryside - the production trio/recording artists Chipper have been garnering serious interest and plaudits since their inception in late 2012. Comprising multi-instrumentalist Raithe Laurence, singer-songwriter Harry Keyworth and producer/engineer Jethro Chaplin, their remit is the deep electronic groove of Massive Attack, Little Dragon, Bonobo et al shot through with consummate live musicianship and plaintive vocals redolent of Bon Iver and Jose Gonzales. Laurence expertly summons crisp loops and electronic wizardry seemingly from thin air, providing a solid bedrock for Keyworth's all-too-human songwriting and pathos to drench these otherworldly creations. Chaplin's skills on a desk ably knit the strands into a cohesive whole, sometimes even adding an unusual extra instrument (and dimension). In all, it's a heady mix, and the future looks immeasurably bright.
